In 1984, aged 11, Steve was scouted by his abuser who was a coach at Crewe Alexandra Football Club.
When he made his debut at 16 years old, he became the youngest player in the club’s history – a record which still stands today. A skilful midfielder, Steve went on to play more than 170 games for Crewe including an appearance at Wembley. However, his early promise was never fulfilled and following illness and injuries, he dropped out of the league football in 1995 joining Northwich Victoria FC for five years followed by stints at Morecambe FC and Stevenage FC. After football, Steve setup his own industrial cleaning business.
In November 2016, Steve became the second former professional player to waive his anonymity and speak out about abuse in the sport.
